What does it mean when a specimen is adulterated?
Often times a donor will attempt to alter their urine sample in some way in order to prevent a positive test result. The may try a variety of different methods of adulteration including:
- Diluting their urine sample with water or drinking excessive amounts of water before the test in an effort to reduce the concentration of drug metabolites in their urine.
- Substituting their sample with synthetic urine, urine samples from a person who is "clean", or even going as far as using juice or animal urine.
- Adding a structure altering agent to to mask the presence of drug metabolites. These may include bleach, eye drops, hydrogen peroxide, etc.
What is a CLIA Waived drug test?
CLIA Waived drug tests are test systems that have been approved for a waiver based on the CLIA 7-point criteria, as well as tests cleared by the FDA for home use, as described by the CLIA regulations.
How do I dispose of the urine drug test cup once the test is completed?
Once you've completed the test and the cup is sealed, the test is biohazardous safe so you can simply throw the cup and sample away when you are done.
12 Panel Drug Test Cup Instructions for Use:
Remove device from the foil pouch and label the cup with the donor's information.
Remove the test cup lid and have the donor urinate directly into the cup, making sure to provide a urine sample that's a minimum of 30ml to a maximum of 110ml.
Once the donor has collected the urine sample, ask them to securely place the lid back on the test device, then return the test cup to the collection official.
Peel back the label to reveal the test panels and verify the adulteration strip against the color chart provided. If results indicate that adulteration has occurred, discard the test cup without reading the drug test results and repeat steps 1-3, instructing the donor to recollect their sample with a new test cup.
Read the results at 5 minutes. Results read after 10 minutes should be considered invalid
Reading the Drug Test Results:
Negative drug test results will have two lines - one line in the control region and one line in the test region.
Presumptive positive results will show only one line in the control region. If a test strip fails to show a line in the control region, this indicates an invalid drug test result.
Invalid drug test results occur when no line appears in the control region. Should this occur, repeat the test with a new cup. If results are still invalid, please stop using the test cups and contact TestCountry.
