Applicant Testing

  • Applicant should be informed orally during application
  • Ads & application forms should indicate notice of drug test

Employee Testing

  • Employee should be given notice at least 30 days in advance
  • Authorized testing: reasonable suspicion, safety-sensitive positions, annual employee physical exam, random (using computer-based randomizer)
  • First positive drug test result requires substance abuse evaluation & opportunity for treatment
  • Subsequent positive result or failure to complete treatment may lead to discipline or discharge

  • Opportunity to explain positive results
  • Opportunity to request confirmation for retesting
  • Confidential test results
  • Removal of positive result from personnel file, if treatment program was completed
