Medical Review Officer Drug Screening
The MROCC is formed by the American Medical Association and some members of medical specialty societies like the American Society of Addiction Medicine, The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology and American College of Medical Toxicology. Wonder what’s the purpose of this organization?
The organization was actually formed to provide examination and certification for MRO’s. It provides it so-called MROCC Certification Examination for federal drug testing programs. The exam is based on the requirements made by the federal government and have been developed through the efforts of the Department of Health and Human Services.
Committees built for the MROCC Certification Examination
The first committee is called the Examination Development Committee. The basic task of this committee is to see to it that aside from the examination, MROs have also fulfilled federal requirements. Specific state requirements like those of Florida Drug-Free Workplace Law and Oklahoma State Department of Health for MRO certification and training are also being considered by the committee while developing the exams.
The members of this committee are appointed by MROCC’s board of directors and have also been recognized as leaders when it comes to alcohol and drug testing. They have been carefully chosen from the various fields of occupational medicine, substance abuse and toxicology.
The second committee formed by the MROCC is called the Examination Validation Committee. This committee, on the other hand, is tasked to check on the validity and accuracy of the examinations. They validate each item in the exam using psychometrical weights. This is to assure that the exam follows guidelines set forth by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the Educational Testing Service.
Tools provided by MROCC
There are various tools offered by the council for those who have passed the MROCC Certification Examination as well as for those who want to search for MROCC certified individuals. These ones can help the MRO become more educated about his chosen career path. Some of these tools are:
- MRO Code of Ethics. This page contains the code of ethics governing MROs. This basically covers what every MRO should know how he should behave as a certified drug testing specialist. This was approved by the board in July 2003 but was updated in October 2008.
- MRO Fee Schedule. Since most MROs spend time practicing their actual profession, drug testing and other services they offer are often considered secondary. With this in mind, MROCC saw to it that certified MROs still follow basic pricing guidelines for the aforementioned services. This list can be checked via https://secure.bcentralhost.com/mrocc.org/feeschedule.PDF. Even consumers of these services may check on the list to make sure that MROs are charging them at a fair price.
- Certificate Verification. This can also be used by any consumer who wants to know whether an MRO is certified or not. The list is updated by the MROCC-certified person from time to time so that their consumers can contact them for their services. The search is made easier as the MROs are listed either by name, by state or country. This is otherwise seen through the Directory of MROs in the webpage.
Educational updating through MROCC
This provides MRO certified individuals with privileges to enroll in courses that can update their learning about the drug and alcohol testing industry. There are manuals that come with recertification and self-assessment exams. Fees for these educational training programs vary.
Individuals who desire to have MROCC certification can actually apply through the organization’s website. The good thing is that access is given to users of workplace drug and alcohol testing services as well. Take advantage of the educational and website tools provided by the company.
