Prescription Drugs BLOG

Even before Tiger Woods’ drug and sex scandals, Vicodin has been a name that we keep on hearing about when celebrities get into a drug mess. It seems that many celebrities have found Vicodin to be their favorite prescription drug to abuse. Of course, being used by celebrities does not make Vicodin any safer. On the contrary, it makes it even more dangerous as more people think that taking it for recreational purposes is okay when it really is not.

Vicodin, a tablet containing a combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone, is prescribed to relieve moderate or severe pain. It may be habit-forming and it should be used with proper medical guidance and only by the person it was prescribed for. It should also be taken exactly as it was prescribed. Do not attempt to take it at larger amounts or for longer periods.

Vicodin overdose is very dangerous and may be fatal. Initial signs of overdose include loss of appetite, vomiting, stomach pain, nausea, sweating, confusion and weakness. It could cause darkening of the urine and discoloration (turning to yellow) of skin and eyes. It can eventually lead to extreme drowsiness, slow heart rate, weak pulse, coma, shallow breathing, or death. A baby who feeds on the milk of a mother taking Vicodin may show signs of addiction to or withdrawal from the drug, including poor breathing conditions.
