Nymox is a biotechnology firm committed to developing tests associated with tobacco use and to assist in the medical treatment of an aging population. You can learn more about Nymox below.

A Brief History

The Nymox Pharmaceutical Corporation, which is headquartered in New Jersey and Montreal, has been busily developing useful diagnostic testing and therapeutics for a wide range of problems, particularly those affecting the aging Baby Boomers. Enlarged prostates and Alzheimer's are two of their biggest focuses because these are affecting large numbers of people over the age of 50. As a result of recent health scares involving food contamination, Nymox is also developing treatments for E. coli. Nymox's AlzheimAlert which helps in the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease is available in both the United States and the European Union. The company also offers NicAlert and TobacAlert products which help test for tobacco exposure. These have been approved for use in the United States by the FDA.

Company Mission

Nymox is dedicated to developing and making available important diagnostic testing and treatment programs that are meant to help improve the health and quality of life of an aging population. This demographic is increasing in population as the Baby Boomers begin retiring and start facing the major health challenges Nymox wants to help them deal with more effectively.

Nymox is one of the leading producers of tobacco testing products. NicAlert is one of the two devices they offer. The product is touted as being useful for a wide range of purposes at both the business and personal level. Parents can test their children for smoking, for example, which insurance representatives can use the test to determine smoking status for insurance applications. The diagnostic tests can also be useful in research for tobacco-related studies. The user must provide either a sample of urine or of saliva to be tested. After 15 minutes, the strip will show a series of colored bands and numbers. The lowest number from 0 to 6 is the result. Anything above 3 indicates the presence of tobacco. The higher the number on the test; the higher the body's tobacco level concentration.

Nymox also produces the TobacAlert product which is an easier to use and read version of NicAlert. For this reason, it is well-suited for home use. You can purchase either saliva or urine sample strips. The strips will then indicate whether or not you have been exposed to tobacco in the last 3 days. The test also detects exposure to second-hand smoke. If you get a 1 or a 2 on the test and you are not a user of any tobacco or nicotine products, you have been exposed to secondhand smoke. Any finding above 3 indicates you are a smoker.
